Message from Hugues Lagesse, acting CEO

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

What a year 2020 has been! It has certainly brought us challenging times with the global pandemic necessitating many sacrifices and slowdowns in Mauritius, and around the world.

In spite of the borders remaining closed at this writing, we did not waste time or energy in seeking to sustain the hospitality side of our assets, such as looking for new and different approaches to re-opening the hotel by appealing to the local market. This has made the village a very dynamic place these past 6 months, and was made possible by the dedicated management and staff at Radisson Blu Azuri Resort & Spa, Azuri Services, Ocean Edge, and Lifestyle & Events. A hearty thank you goes out to each and every member of these teams.

On the development side, our sales team has strengthened its efforts in appealing to current and new markets by moving their systems entirely on line. As destinations, Mauritius irs properties for sale and Azuri are still of tremendous interest and attractiveness to many from Europe and other countries, and lead generation for property sales continues to be strong. We are working to be flexible and to cater for every buyer’s need, and are pleased to see momentum returning in the form of interest for Azuri and its lifestyle proposition.

Golf course construction was impacted as well, and we weren’t able to break ground last March as originally planned. I am happy to tell you that Azuri will be going forward with its construction which has been rescheduled to begin during the first quarter of 2021. In the interim, we have noticed continued attraction for our golf offering. This is highly encouraging for next year’s perspectives.

Lockdown has taught us that we can work more synergistically, to see things differently, to come up with new ideas and ways of doing things. This has been a time of re-adjustment, and has led us to develop and present a comprehensive 10-year vision and master plan of where we want Azuri to go. This is our responsibility as the developer – we take it very seriously. I invite you to learn about the basics of this plan in the accompanying article in this month’s edition of Hashtags.

I would really like to thank all those who have stood by us during these challenging times,  and extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every resident at Azuri for being a part of this positive effort. A tight-knit community within the estate – and among management and staff, some of whom stayed in the village throughout quarantine – came together brilliantly to support and assist one
another, with the sole intent of bouncing back, better than ever. This was a show of solidarity beyond expectation.

I also want to thank our partners for the trust and support they have shown for the efforts and initiatives taken during this period. We look forward to being involved together in many more fruitful enterprises as we move forward with our masterplan for the future.

The adage by Martin Luther King that opens this message says it as well as any, and the experiences at Azuri this past year have proven that real power is derived from people coming together for a common purpose. Adversity truly does bring out the best in us all.

I close this message with my best wishes for a Happy Holiday Season, and a safe and successful New Year 2021 for you and your loved ones here at Azuri and around the world.
