Azuri Golf - Construction in progress
Azuri Ocean & Golf Village is excited to announce that the construction of our new golf facility, THE NINE, at the heart of the Rive Droite Neighbourhood, has started and the golf course is expected to open in the second quarter of 2022.
This signature par-3 9-hole golf course will be the very first on the island, which adds enormous value to existing structures at Azuri. The clearing of the course is currently underway, and the earthworks will extend over 7 months, the following 5 months will focus on the landscaping and final preparation of the greens and fairways, in view of opening the course in the second quarter of 2022.
Hugues Lagesse, Acting CEO of BlueLife Limited, the property developer behind the golf course said, “We want to make golf more welcoming and inclusive for people of all ages and backgrounds. We are excited by the prospect of having in a very near future a golf course in the very heart of our community, that provides an accessible pathway into golf and inspires people to get out, have fun and experience the many health and well-being benefits that playing golf with family and friends can provide.”
Azuri has teamed up with well-known international golf professionals, assuring the very highest class of golf course in Mauritius. Marc Amelot of Green Sun Management (GSM) – expert in golf course development, operations and maintenance – is the lead golf consultant for this course, which is designed by IMG – one of the world’s leading golf course designers. The construction will be under the management of BlueLife’s development team, assisted by the company Indian Ocean Golf Construction IOGC Ltd.
From the very start of the design and concept process of this golf course, we felt that there was a compelling need for a signature par-3 9-hole golf course in Mauritius, hence the design of this unique model for Azuri that allows all levels of players – including the best – to enjoy a full and challenging game of golf in 90 minutes, on a 1,235meter course, that respects worldwide standards of championship courses. Holes on the course will range in length from 108 to 181 meters. The first four holes will run alongside the edge of the river on the west side of the course where there is significant elevation change, while holes five to eight will be routed on a more gently undulating area of the site. “The site offers several outstanding features including a river with dramatic tree-lined banks, rocky outcrops across gently undulating terrain located only a few hundred yards from the sea,” said Paul Burley, senior vice president of IMG Golf Course Services.
With the establishment of the Azuri Golf, Azuri will join ranks with IMG’s network of the world’s top golf destinations. Azuri is proposing golf memberships for The Nine golf course, so if you are interested in becoming a member, we still have memberships available, please contact us at [email protected] for information on how to subscribe.
